Herb Garden

We love our herb selection for the Early Spring Box! These varieties are diverse for all different types of recipes. From drinks, garnishes, pastas, or teas, these plants will provide you with great additions to your kitchen. These plant types thrive in the sun, and can last for a whole growing season with proper maintenance. Remember: To prevent shock, do not pick more than ⅓ of the plant when harvesting.

The Plants

Basil

Plant to Harvest: 30 days
Space Needed: 12-16 inches

Helpful tip:

Harvest ⅓ of the mature basil plant each month to encourage new plant growth.In extreme heat, basil will want to bolt. Prevent bolting by watering regularly and providing light shade on peak hours of heat during the day. Trim flowering stems one inch below the flower to avoid bolting and basil turning bitter.

Dill

Plant to Harvest: 60 days
Space Needed: 12-16 inches

Helpful tip:

Dill is an easy herb to grow. It will grow and bolt upwards if you leave it unattended and unharvested. Harvest often, and do not harvest more than a third of the plant at a time to prevent shock. Dill can grow fast, if it is overwhelming your garden, harvest and dry the herb.

Tri-Basil

Plant to Harvest: 30 days
Space Needed: 12-16 inches

Helpful tip:

This basil is basically three basil varieties in one! Its multicolored leaves add a pop of color to your garden and is a fun way to switch it up. This will taste relatively similar to typical basil. Basil can be grown indoors or outdoors as long as it has sunlight, well drained soil, and water.

Lemongrass

Plant to Harvest: 50-80 days
Space Needed:: 12-16 inches

Helpful tip:

Lemongrass is known as one of the easiest plants to grow as long as you protect it from the cold. It can be grown in the ground or in pots as long as it is nutrient rich soil. Lemongrass can be harvested for both the stalk and the foliage. You can begin to harvest lemongrass when the plant becomes a foot tall. You can twist or cut a stalk that is at least ¼ inch thick to enjoy.

Chamomile

Plant to Harvest: 40-60 days
Space Needed 12-16 inches

Helpful tip:

This is the first time we are sending chamomile to our subscribers, and we are so excited! Roman Chamomile can be used for tea, decoration, or a way to add flowers to your garden! It grows best in full sun, it’s a low maintenance plant and is easy to grow. It is not affected by many pests, and doesn’t need to be watered as often as other plants.

Nasturtium

Plant to Harvest: 40-60 days
Space Needed: 12-16 inches

Helpful tip:

This is a Jewel Colors Nasturtium! It will provide you with various colored flowers you can eat or enjoy as a pop of color in your garden. From the flowers, to the leaves, to the stems, you can eat the entire plant. Nasturtium has a peppery flavor, and is easy to grow. You can harvest it as it grows as long as you do not harvest more than ⅓ of the plant to prevent shock.
