Caring for Cilantro
LEAF'D TIPS - caring for cilantro
Cilantro is a great herb for anyone who likes to cook. It can be used in a lot of dishes and has a wonderful taste. Unfortunately, many people don’t know who to keep this plant healthy or to harvest it so here’s what you need to know.
- Cilantro isn’t a plant that grows forever, it has a very limited window in which it produces the best leaves before it starts to flower. With that being said you want to be very disciplined about watching your Cilantro and harvesting at the correct time.
- The best environment for this plant is a spot with a lot of indirect sunlight. Cilantro can get dried up in direct sun so having a place with a lot of shade will let your plant flourish. This is especially important if you live in a hot or dry climate.
- When it comes time to harvest your cilantro, you only want to cut about ⅓ of the plant at a time. Overharvesting can cause the plant to die prematurely. Cut the leaves at the bottom first then work your way to the top.
- The final takeaway is that Cilantro is a very delicate plant so be gentle with it. Don’t overwater, over sun, or overfeed. If you follow these tips you should have great cilantro ready to go!
